Lypid, a Taiwanese startup recognized by Louisa and Forbes
Collaborate to launch new meat products
Lypid is a startup company founded in Silicon Valley by Taiwanese Huang Renyou and Li Boting. The two met at Cornell University; Huang Renyou has long chemical industry and practical entrepreneurial experience, while Li Boting has novel microencapsulation food processing technology. They observed the market trend of meat substitutes and founded Lypid in 2020.

Since the melting point of vegetable oils that replace animal fats is much lower than that of fats, vegetable oils will quickly vaporize during cooking, making it difficult to make fatty items such as bacon. Lypid has developed PhytoFat™, a pure plant-based oil developed through innovative microcapsule technology and formula, which prevents vegetable oils from vaporizing at high temperatures and can present the taste of meat.

In the summer of 2021, Lypid was selected for the IndieBio accelerator focusing on food technology. In March of this year, it completed a seed round of fundraising of US$4 million (approximately NT$120 million) led by Green Generation Fund, with participation from SOSV, Big Idea Ventures, Vision Ventures, Lianxun Ventures, Foodland Ventures, and AVA Angel Investment.
